The Biblical plague. Again.

March 14, 2018  •  1 Comment

Last year I wrote about the biblical plague of frogs that befell us in mid March - and this year is no different.

Well... no different apart from the fact that we are forecast freezing conditions again this weekend - and this will come AFTER all our dozens (and dozens) of frogs have spawned this week - which is more than a slight concern.

Anyway - a couple of photos of our boiling pond - try and count the number of frogs in the 2nd photo - I'll help you by putting a pink dot over one eye of each frog I counted below.

At the end of this post, I'll tell you how many I counted... (and even I may've missed one or two!)

It looks like we're hosting the entire neighbourhood's frog population at present - primarily because I NEVER use tap water to fill my pond (too much chlorine) and also because our new neighbours have decided to keep fish in the old frog pond they inherited and they've also covered it with a net.

No... I don't understand some people either.

Stay warm this weekend, grapple fans - and let's all hope our frog spawn makes it through to next weekend...

TBR.

Now.

If you want to know how many frogs are in the shot above.... in our pond yesterday... keep scrolling down!

It is 28th March 2020, I have had for the past month a deluge of Frogs in my garden pond, the pond is approximately 3sq meters in size and this year we have had on average about a hundred to a hundred and fifty frogs cavorting around the pond, we have only just noticed in the past three days spawn being laid, but very little for the amount of frogs on parade.
Does everyone have an increase in their pound habitations this year or is it a bit abnormal?
I was interested in your photos which look very impressive, do you have a lot of frogs each year or is this just a little more than usual.
Our pond is about six years in age we stock it with plants and do not top up the pond except with rain water, after the spawn has hatched we have to put in the pond about 10 liters of Daphnea to feed on the algae produced by the decomposing spawn, and a little straw to produce more oxygenation. Apart from that we do not do anything else out of the ordinary.
